Recycling Plan
Recycling reduces the amount of garbage deposited into landfills and incinerators, protects our health and environment, conserves our natural resources, saves energy and saves money. We’d be happy to help you implement a Recycling Plan for your business. Below are some tips to establishing a Recycling Plan in your place of work.
- Audit the waste stream - Determine what is being disposed and where (paper, can, tissues, etc.)
- Standardize the sizes of trash and recycling receptacles
- Reduces the number of liners (if necessary)
- People can easily recognize a recycling bin versus trash bin
- Identify a Steward - There should be a person or persons (department heads) who is the steward(s) of the recycling program. Without stewards, the program will fail.
- Communicate and Educate
- Don’t assume people will know what to do with a blue bin versus a black one.
- Provide handouts, emails, and lectures (if possible) BEFORE you start your recycling program.
- Post signs and informational forms at each large recycling location with the items that belong in each bin.
- Send out periodic notices and reminders to keep it in front of everyone. People will revert back to old habits.
- Provide information in your hiring packets or orientation for all new employees.
