Students Win Go Green Fresno County Scholarships on Earth Day
Go Green Fresno County and the Fresno Arts Council are happy to announce the winners of the Go Green Fresno County Student Art Contest. All three winners, whose artwork was selected by a panel of judges from a pool of 200 entries, were surprised with the announcement and a check presentation today in their classrooms.
- Corbin Brown, a third grader at Manchester GATE, won the $500 Valley Sanitary Supply Elementary School Go Green Scholarship
- Denise Gillam, a sixth grader at Bullard TALENT, won the $1,000 Janitorial Inc Middle School Go Green Scholarship
- Alejandro Rodriguez, a twelfth grader at Central High East, won the $1,500 Akeena Solar High School Go Green Scholarship
Students were asked to demonstrate through their artwork what 'going green' means to them. Many of the entries were creative and insightful.
"The reason this contest is so important to Go Green Fresno County and ultimately our environment is that it encouraged children to develop eco-friendly habits and to think abstractly about going green," said Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea, whose office facilitated the contest for the County.
Select artwork from the contest can be viewed at the Central Library, Cedar and Clinton Library, and the Woodward Park Library.

"We appreciate the superior service Valley Sanitary provides us. They respond efficiently and with a sense of urgency to our requests as indicated with the swine flu preparations. They really do exceed our expectations. The entire organization does.
Thanks very much for taking such good care of us."
